Athens Joins Hong Kong Air Cargo's Freighter Network

Feb 03, 2026

Twice-weekly charter flights will commence on February 2nd, expanding the airline's European coverage to 14 destinations, partly driven by growing e-commerce demand.

Hong Kong Air Cargo (HKAC) will add scheduled charter flights between Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) and Athens International Airport (ATH) next month.

The flights will commence on February 2nd, further expanding Hong Kong Air's operations in Europe.

The airline stated that flights from HKG to ATH will operate on Mondays and Thursdays, while flights from ATH to HKG will depart on the same day.

In a LinkedIn post on January 30th, the airline stated, "We are delighted to announce the commencement of charter flights between Hong Kong and Athens (ATH) on February 2nd, 2026."

"Athens becoming our 14th destination marks a further expansion of our European network. This operation also highlights our ability to deploy customized charter solutions based on specific cargo needs."

Hong Kong's business hub is steadily expanding into the European market, partly to meet the region's e-commerce demands. The airline commenced operations in the region in October 2023, launching flights to Milan Malpensa.

In February 2024, Hong Kong Airlines began operating a new route to Liege, Belgium, followed by expansion to Oslo, Norway in September 2024.

The UK has consistently been a key focus for Hong Kong Airlines' European operations. In February 2024, the airline began operating flights to London Stansted (STN), followed by Birmingham (BHX) in October 2024.

In February 2025, the airline began flights to Glasgow Prestwick (PIK), and in November 2025, it began operations at East Midlands Airport (EMA).

Earlier this month, Hong Kong Airlines added an Airbus A330-200 passenger-to-freighter (P2F) aircraft to its fleet of five A330-200 production freighters, all of which are dry-leased by its parent company, Hong Kong Airlines. The airline also owns an EFW-modified Airbus A330-300P2F, currently leased under an ACMI contract.
