What is an air freight container?
An air container is an air transport tool, equivalent to a shipping container. It enables cargo to be transported safely, quickly and efficiently on passenger and cargo aircraft. A ship can stack more than 20,000 containers. The situation on an airplane is different. The loading space is small and the shape is irregular. Therefore, aircraft are equipped with many different sizes and shapes of air cargo containers to maximize the use of available space.
There are generally two ways to load cargo on an airplane:
1. Bulk form
Load the goods one by one into the cargo hold of the aircraft
2. Container form
The goods are first loaded onto the ULD and then loaded into the cargo hold of the aircraft.
Generally speaking, narrow-body aircraft carry bulk cargo, while wide-body aircraft carry containerized cargo in addition to bulk cargo in the bulk cargo compartment.
